Live each day as if it where your fellow humans last.
We have all heard the advice to live each day as if it where your last. This is good advice as long as you only follow it for one day a week.
If we would life every day as if it where our last we would end up in the poorhouse or hospital very fast.
I believe a lot can be gained by reversing the saying though.

The self-hatred of abuser and victim
Every one of us has already experienced the following before. Someone in our social surroundings doesn’t like us and tries to make our life a living hell. In school I was one of the guys who got tormented and bullied by the self-instated class tyrant. I felt trapped and helpless, unable to free myself and betrayed by my friends who didn’t try to help me either. Today I realize that the others were terrified as well and I don’t think it was fair to expect much help. At the time I didn’t see any guilt on my side, apart from looking differently than my tyrants.

How I learned to like chores
I hated household chores as a teenager. Most of the time they were boring, tiring and often linked with the disappointment of my mother who had to remind me of my responsibilities once more. More than one I sneaked by my mother out of the house or into another room, because I knew that I would get the next chore as soon as she noticed me.
When I started living on my own it wasn’t much better at first. I stalled everything as long as possible. I used games and books to divert my eyes from reality, which included chores, to fantasy worlds with “real” challenges. Continue Reading →
The sum of all addictions remains the same
“The sum of all addictions remains the same (Die Summe aller Laster ist konstant)”
This is a sentence one of my teachers used to say and even thought it was always half in jest I believe there is a grain of truth in it. We all felt, at some point in time, and most probably still do, that there is something missing in our lives. Every day we try to find something or someone to fill this hole in our heart and since most days we can’t find anything that’s valuable, we gum the hole up with something bad – with addictions.
An addiction is something that undermines our strength and furthers our weaknesses and in doing so it makes it that much harder to reach the life we want to live.
