Balancing Life

Sometimes it is difficult to find and keep the right balance in life. We will actually have seldom a day or week in life, that is truly in balance. That’s not a problem though since balance isn’t measured on a daily level, but on a year or life scale when it comes to your goals in life and the path you want to travel to reach them. On this scale it doesn’t matter if we waver or stumble sometimes, what is important is to always keep an eye on your goals.

In ourselves we have two fundamentally different approaches to and perspectives of our world. This is true for our inner core, our soul as well. One of the parts of our soul strives for acknowledgement, glory, power and worldly accomplishments, while the other part longs for love, authenticity and strength of character.

Light and Darkness

In the times before we had the blessing of artificial light, most people knew that a good sleep will make for a better and longer life. In their works many of the great poets praise sleep as something wonderful. I have to admit however that the people didn’t have to many things they could do in total darkness, and light from candles was expensive and of terrible quality.

12 years of your life

Here in Germany we are watching TV for 220 Minutes a day on average, about 15% of our day, 22% of our hours awake, nearly 50% of our free time. If we are so lucky to make it to 80 years old, we will have spent 12 years of our life in front of the TV. We watch more TV the older we get while we only watch about half as much TV before the age of 14.

How I learned to like chores

I hated household chores as a teenager. Most of the time they were boring, tiring and often linked with the disappointment of my mother who had to remind me of my responsibilities once more. More than one I sneaked by my mother out of the house or into another room, because I knew that I would get the next chore as soon as she noticed me.

When I started living on my own it wasn’t much better at first. I stalled everything as long as possible. I used games and books to divert my eyes from reality, which included chores, to fantasy worlds with “real” challenges. Continue Reading →

Identity – Who are you really?

Who am I? Where does my journey lead? What do I want to achieve? Those are the Questions we have to ask ourselves, if we want to be more than mindless robots who only live and work in the way others want us to. Our Identity, the combination of aspects that build our inner and outer self, is often hidden from our eyes. Often the only way to see more clearly who you are is to reflect upon yourself; to look back into the past and to figure out which identities you adopted over the years. When you see who you have been and how you arrived at those identities it will give you a clue about how to adopt another identity in the future.

I was talking to a friend the other day when it hit us that for many years our identity had mostly been Continue Reading →

Why also in English?

Even though English is not my mother tongue I want to share my thoughts and experiences also in this language. Most of the books and blogs I read are written in English and I want to try and give something back to these great minds that inspire me. I’m aware of the fact that my writing will suffer from many mistakes in the beginning, but I feel I have to try and hopefully get better overtime.

Advanced Balancing

In our lives we experience ups and downs, loud and silent, sad and beautiful moments, time and time again. Everything seems to follow a certain harmony, always in search for a rebalancing effect. In this blog I will write about my journey through life with all its ups and downs and I will try to highlight the important lessons I encounter on this road I travel.

With each day I try to bring my life closer to the image I have of a truly good life. This good life consists of a happy relationship with family and friends, a good workplace, a rich spiritual life, joy and harmony. To reach this life there are many strategies out there, many of which I already tried and a lot which I’ll try in the future. I will post the results Continue Reading →
